Seal takes out line honors
By Karen Earnshaw
For only the second time in the history of the Mieco Beach Yacht Club, the
yacht Seal, skippered by Cary Evarts, took line honors in a race, blasting
her way around the 11.5 mile course on Sunday in two hours and eleven
minutes.
Seal also won the race on corrected time (one hour and thirty-three
minutes).
Four boats intended to race on the blustery but sunny day. However, during
starting maneuvers the trimaran Windswept, skippered by Richard Barrie,
broke a halyard, forcing the largest boat in the race to pull out.
Second place was taken out by the smaller trimaran Sequester, skippered by
Ted, with a corrected time of one hour and fifty-four minutes. Third went to
Po’Oino Roa, skippered by Kathy McGraw, with a corrected time of two hours
and nine minutes.
The next race in the yacht club’s season is expected to be Sunday, March 9,
with the skippers’ meeting at the clubhouse (Marshall Islands Resort) at 6pm
on Friday, March 7.
